SIDO’s Level 1 Trade Specialist Training is offered each year during the month of September and focuses on developing foundational skills. This
course is for practitioners that are new to their role. The training concentrates on understanding the Trade Ecosystem and Partners, Economic
Development and Trade’s Role, Understanding the Job and the Basics and specifically Responsibilities and Performance, Developing your Client
Pipeline, and culminating with a Capstone Project – Trade Development Guide.
The program places an emphasis on Peer Learning Strategies and includes Case Studies, Working Group Sessions, Expert Panel Sessions, Best Practices and “How it really works,” discussions.

Course Timeline:
SIDO’s Level 1 – Trade Specialist Training begins in early September with 3 virtual sessions (2-hour sessions) and concludes at SIDO’s Best Practices & Training Conference later in the month with 2 days of in-person sessions and working group deliberations.
Cost & Registration
Level 1 Trade Specialist: $1600
- ZOOM platform for Virtual Sessions
- Travel and Accommodation Costs for sessions at SIDO’s Best Practices Conferences are not included in Training Costs
- Course Completion Celebration and Certificate takes place during the last day of SIDO Best Practices & Training Conference
- Level 1 participants receive a discounted price to attend SIDO’s Best Practices & Training Conference ($300) which are included in training costs
