STEP Business Coalition

Join the STEP Coalition!

The State International Development Organizations (SIDO) is leading the effort to reauthorize the State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) and to secure annual funding. To assist in our advocacy efforts, SIDO has launched a business coalition to help educate Congress on the importance of STEP and we need your partnership and support!

The State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) is a critical resource to help small businesses start or expand their exports in the global marketplace. STEP provides an incentive for small businesses to engage in export activities, including participating in trade shows, identifying foreign buyers, localizing their website and developing e-commerce platforms, and other services.

With less than two percent of small businesses in the United States exporting, we need to provide small firms with the necessary resources to compete in the global economy – that is why STEP is vital to our shared mission!

Coalition Mission

The mission of the coalition is to develop an advocacy campaign focused on securing funding for the STEP grant and other trade promotion services utilized by small businesses.

SIDO will work with coalition members to collect success stories, communicate information to Congress and federal agencies, and strengthen the voice of small business exporters in Washington, D.C.

Benefits of Your Partnership

  • Work closely with SIDO leadership, state members, and similar businesses on our joint mission to strengthen STEP and export promotion programs
  • Ensure continued funding for STEP activities
  • Possible opportunity to participate in advocacy opportunities – Congressional roundtables, hearings, webinars and calls
  • Quarterly conference calls with SIDO leadership

About SIDO

SIDO is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, affiliated with The Council of State Governments, or CSG, and comprises international economic development practitioners and professionals from state and related organizations across the country. We Need Your Support!

Together, we will continue to ensure small businesses have access to STEP funds and other resources necessary to compete globally. We are asking $200 for general membership to support our advocacy efforts for 2021.

Thank you in advance for your financial support and participation in our coalition.
